Calming Dynamics is a meditation app used to track time and to teach soft breathing. People are getting increasingly stressed due to issues like cost-of-living (59% of Australians experienced at least one personal stressor in the last 12 months). Consistent meditation reduces stress with not taking too much time.
The Rapid Application Development (RAD) approach was taken in conjunction with CASE tools to develop the software. The development environment was XCode with plug-ins integrated to manage repositories. Initially, research was put into pressing issues such as stress and techniques used to ameliorate such negativities. Thereby, we reached a conclusion that breathing techniques (like box-breathing) and timers can be used to organise life, and reduce problems. Near the end, statistics regarding daily usage were implemented alongside a profile for visual feedback and progress tracking. Gantt charts and logbooks were used to reflect upon features and maintain a strict development timeline.
Nearly all (90%) testers had reported lower levels of stress. The most used feature was the breathing page, which was intuitive. Users reported liking the inspirational quotes feature, and emphasising how it made them feel more optimistic. More variations of breathing and more extensive catalogues of songs can be implemented.
Calming Dynamics was a de-stressor. The techniques were short and replayable which allowed users to use it on public transport, before sleeping, and in the morning. This app emphasises a growth mindset, resulting in a happier life. Developing this app taught the importance of colour schemes in affecting mood.
