Star (Video Game)

People of all ages experience boredom and often find themselves scrolling through social media, this boredom can be solved through an interactive, visual game that can keep players entertained, preventing excessive, mindless scrolling. The objective of this project was to create an engaging game with emphasis on visual appeal.

I first started brainstorming and planning the game by observing games that I enjoyed, games with an emphasis on visuals and concepts that appealed to me. I drew inspiration from popular Indie games such as “Hollow Knight”, “Rain World” and “Ori and the Will of the Wisps” and art from Pinterest boards. When constructing the game, I utilised Unity as my game engine, Visual Studio to write code, Procreate to draw and animate and Google Docs to document the project (92 page document).

Overall, my project was a success as I was satisfied with the outcome and achieved my set goals; hand-drawing all the visuals, smooth movement and receiving full marks. A Limitation of this project would be the initial lag as when the levels are loaded, the player should wait a couple seconds for optimal gameplay as there are many assets in each of the levels, causing slight lag as they load in.

This project had a range of benefits such as successfully providing entertainment and engagement with players and demonstrating the ability of students to create long-term projects. Through this project, I improved my ability to code in C#, to produce art quickly and gained insight into my capabilities.
